Alongside its outdoor tours and tastings, the Madonna Estate can host luxury tasting room sessions which now offer guests a menu of 5 different wines. Since the company was established in 1922, the winegrowers and winemakers at the estate vineyard have been cultivating organic fruit varietals and producing small batches of limited pinot noir and chardonnay.

Located 40 miles northeast of San Francisco, the family-owned and operated winery has become a luxury attraction for visitors to the Los Carneros region renowned for its unique microclimate. The area’s year-round moderate temperatures, limited rainfall, and fertile lands have enabled the Madonna Estate to nurture 55 acres of chardonnay grape varietals and 35 acres of pinot noir varietals.

The vineyard’s dense clay soils and dry farming techniques allow grapes to mature over a longer period which, the family suggests, deepens their flavors and colors and creates a higher-quality product. The Madonna Estate champions this traditional dry farming method, which relies exclusively on natural rainfall to irrigate plants, encouraging grape vines to grow stronger, thicker roots and produce a lower-density, higher-quality yield.

Third-generation grower and member of the CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers), Andrea Bartolucci, believes that natural farming methods that omit the use of synthetic chemicals produce the best grapes.

In addition to chardonnay and pinot noir, the Madonna Estate produces 10,000 cases of handcrafted wine a year, including pinot grigio, gewürztraminer, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, dolcetto, muscat canelli, and barbera. The 10 family-grown wine styles that the estate yields are available to browse and purchase through its online store.

A spokesperson for the company said, “In addition, the flavorful grapes of the Madonna Vineyard are in demand by several wineries for their reserve programs. Using the combination of natural organic farming and dry farming, Madonna Vineyard continues to consistently produce premium quality varietal grapes.”
