The State Bar of Arizona named State 48 Law Firm founder and managing partner Robbie Hendricks as a certified family law specialist on Thursday, June 9th. Arizona State Bar certifies specialists as a way to help the public, particularly potential clients, find an attorney capable of effectively representing them, no matter how complex or involved their case may be.
The designation is closely controlled by the State Bar, and only a handful of attorneys – less than five percent – throughout the state are certified specialists. Mr. Hendricks is one of approximately sixty family law specialists in the state. Mr. Hendricks has practiced family law exclusively since he was first licensed in 2013.
From those first days as a lawyer, it was evident that Mr.Hendricks was not going to be the type of lawyer who just showed up and winged it, or knew only the law he happened to pick up in Practice. He took a much more dedicated approach to how he practiced and how he learned the law. He has been known throughout his career for putting in extra time studying the rules and statutes on nights and weekends. This was driven early on in his career from a desire to better represents his clients, and that drive continues, as he continually seeks to deepen his legal understanding.
The result is a legal knowledge base that far exceeds that of the average family law lawyer. The point of gaining this specialized knowledge is to help people, Hendricks said.

Mr. Hendricks had to pass through some strict eligibility criteria to even be considered for board certification. To become a certified specialist, Mr. Hendricks had to meet benchmark requirements of legal experience, peer reviews, and judicial recommendations and demonstrate the legal knowledge a specialist is expected to possess.
The State Bar certification program also requires a minimum of seven years of experience, including five years in which family law cases comprised 70 percent of their cases.
The Specialization Board reviews each application and makes a determination based on experience and reputation. They are required to select candidates who have extremely high ethical standards, excellent peer reviews, specialized legal education, and specialist-level knowledge.
