Markets advance ahead of Fed meeting minutes release

The markets advanced with the Dow soaring 141 points to 17,630 ahead of the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve’s October meeting. Nasdaq surged 51 points to 5,037.

On the upside

Weight Watchers (NYSE: WTW) presented yesterday afternoon at the Morgan Stanley Global Consumer & Retail Conference.

Bargain hunters lifted shares of Universal Insurance Holdings (NYSE: UVE).

Aramark (NYSE: ARMK) reported higher fourth quarter earnings that topped analyst estimates.

On the downside

Citirix Systems (Nasdaq: CTXS) will eliminate 1,000 jobs and spin off its GoTo business.

Profit taking weighed down shares of KaloBios Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: KBIO).

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission accused Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) of violating Korea competition laws.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 2 to 1 on the NYSE and more than 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 climbed 17 points to 2,067. Bitcoin slipped $3 to $331.
