By: Get News

The 2025 International Forum on Energy Transition, themed “A Decade of Collaboration Drives Energy Transitions for A Green Future”, opened in Suzhou, a city in East China’s Jiangsu province, on October 24. It was jointly organized by the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government. Wang Hongzhi, head of the NEA, Liu Xiaotao, governor of Jiangsu, and Francesco La Camera, director-general of the IRENA, delivered opening remarks.

Wang outlined China’s historic achievements in energy transition over the past decade since the forum’s founding and proposed initiatives to further advance the global energy transition.

He said China, guided by the new energy security strategy of “Four Revolutions and One Cooperation”, has blazed a trail for energy transition that aligns with China’s national conditions, global development trends, and the needs of the times. He said that China has been resolutely pursuing green development, establishing the world’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system; steadfastly fostering innovative development to create a new framework for high-quality energy development; and consistently promoting open cooperation to develop new models for mutually beneficial green and low-carbon energy transitions.

He emphasized that the global energy transition requires consensus-building and stronger international cooperation to: jointly establish a secure energy supply guarantee system for a safer transition; overcome technological bottlenecks for a more dynamic transition; promote a just energy transition for greater sustainability; and uphold multilateralism for a more united transition.

The forum brought together over 2,000 participants, including energy ministers and ambassadors to China from 36 countries and regions, and heads and senior representatives from 15 international energy organizations, as well as representatives from Chinese and foreign energy enterprises, research institutions, and industry associations.

Focusing on the topics such as international cooperation in new energy technology innovation, global clean energy industry and supply chain collaboration, establishment of new win-win models for green and low-carbon energy transition, and the development and reform of international energy governance, the participants held in-depth discussions and further consolidated consensus on green transformation and development, aiming to advance the global energy transition and sustainable development.

Participants broadly agreed that the global energy transition is an irreversible trend, and accelerating green and low-carbon energy development is a shared global opportunity. The International Forum on Energy Transition has evolved into a globally influential, high-end platform for dialogue on clean energy, sharing related achievements, and international cooperation, offering flexible, diverse and mutually beneficial green energy cooperation opportunities to different countries. Participants urged nations to use the forum as a conduit for jointly addressing global climate change challenges and advancing the global energy transition, thereby achieving sustainable energy development and building a cleaner, more beautiful world.

During the forum, a series of outcomes were unveiled, including the Suzhou Vision 2030 for Global Energy Low-Carbon Transition and Development, a curated selection of Chinese energy products and solutions, and the 2025Energy Transitions Index Blue Book.

The International Net-Zero and Zero-Waste City Development Alliance was established, and the exhibition themed “China’s Energy Transition Path in the New Era” was held. The exhibition comprehensively showcased China’s historic achievements in energy transition, advances in energy technology innovation and application, and examples of international cooperation, laying a solid foundation for practical global collaboration on clean energy.

As the prelude to the forum, 11 sub-forums—including the Sub-Forum on Global Renewable Energy Development cum the 2025 International Hydropower Development Conference—along with two events themed “Youth Empowerment: Leading the Future of Energy” and “The Power of Women in Energy Transition” were held on October 23.

Officials from relevant NEA departments and agencies, together with representatives from local municipal and provincial-level authorities, attended the meetings.
