Temporal Joins the Agentic AI Foundation as a Gold Member to Advance Open Standards for Production Agent Workloads

Temporal Technologies, the creators of the open-source Durable Execution platform Temporal.io and the enterprise-grade managed service Temporal Cloud, today announced that the company has joined the newly formed Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) as a Gold Member. Hosted by the Linux Foundation, AAIF is a neutral, open foundation dedicated to advancing agentic AI through community-governed standards and shared infrastructure.

The Foundation launched today with three open-source contributions that are already widely used across the agentic ecosystem, including Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), OpenAI’s AGENTS.md, and Block’s goose. Together, these projects help establish common building blocks for connecting AI agents to tools, data, and real-world systems in a consistent and interoperable way.

AAIF brings together leading organizations contributing key components of the emerging agentic stack, from protocols and frameworks to infrastructure and developer tooling. Temporal was invited to join AAIF based on its role in operating many of the largest production agentic applications in the world today, including agent frameworks such as goose that rely on Temporal’s durability under high-volume workloads.

“We believe that core infrastructure benefits from being open source, because it gives the community a voice in how it evolves," said Maxim Fateev, co-founder and CTO at Temporal. "That's why we built Temporal this way from the start. Agentic AI is moving into that category, and it needs neutral governance as it evolves. Temporal already powers large scale agent systems in production today, and we are contributing what we have learned to help establish a foundation the entire community can rely on.”

As part of the Foundation, Temporal will contribute:

  • Production expertise from operating mission-critical agentic systems at global scale
  • Durable Execution reliability, enabling agents to run, recover, and coordinate work over long periods of time
  • Interoperability across heterogeneous stacks, supporting agents that must interact with legacy systems, external APIs, and modern AI services
  • Scalable execution patterns proven in payments, ecommerce, and large-scale distributed environments
  • Collaboration in open, community-driven standards that are governed neutrally and benefit every developer building agentic systems

Temporal’s Durable Execution platform guarantees that agent systems continue operating even when services fail or workloads spike, eliminating the operational burden of custom recovery logic. As agentic architectures expand into production, reliability becomes a core requirement. Joining AAIF allows Temporal to inform standards with patterns validated through real deployments at scale.

About Temporal Technologies:

Temporal is changing how modern software is built through its open-source Durable Execution platform. By guaranteeing the execution of workflows even in the face of system failures, Temporal allows developers to focus entirely on business logic instead of developer plumbing for process crashes, infrastructure, and dependency failures—increasing developer velocity. Its polyglot capabilities allow seamless orchestration across multiple programming languages, making it ideal for both traditional enterprise applications and next-generation AI workloads. Temporal Cloud, the company's managed service backed by the originators of the project, has been adopted by thousands of leading enterprises. Learn more at www.temporal.io.
