Kyiv City State Administration is Planning to Allocate a Land Plot to Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport for its Further Reconstruction

Kyiv City State Administration is to allocate land plot for permanent use of Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport. As a result, the airport will be able to accommodate Boeing aircraft with a large passenger capacity within the city's boundaries.

KYIV, UKRAINE, July 01, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to Mykhailo Terentyev, a deputy of the Kyiv City State Administration and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Architecture, Urban Planning and Land Relations, support of this draft resolution at the plenary session of the Kyiv City State Administration will contribute to implementation of the next stage of the airport reconstruction.

"Today we kick-started another step of the airport reconstruction with the extension of the runway by supporting the allocation of a land plot for permanent use of the airport for the deployment, operation and maintenance of engineering, transport, energy infrastructure and communication facilities between Medova Street and Promenysta Street. A part of this area is currently occupied by a landfill. During the reconstruction work, the airport undertakes to compensate for the losses of agricultural production and ensure the implementation of all other obligations under this draft resolution," said Mikhail Terentyev.

The chairman of the Standing Commission emphasized that the Kyiv City State Administration has already allocated another land plot for permanent use of Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport. As a result, the airport will be able to accommodate Boeing aircraft with a large passenger capacity within the city's boundaries, which will positively affect the passenger traffic in the capital.

The deputy added that the Standing Committee on Architecture, Urban Planning and Land Relations will proceed to actively promote the progressive development of the key infrastructure facilities in Kyiv.

To recap, in pursuance of the order of the Kyiv City State Administration, large-scale reconstruction work of the aerodrome of Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport (Zhulyany) is about to start in the capital of Ukraine. The project includes the extension of the runway by 500 m (up to 2,810 m), construction of new taxiways, platforms, light signaling equipment, etc.

The project contemplates upgrading the aerodrome and will allow landing of CAT II category ICAO aircrafts with higher passenger capacity, such as Airbus A321. Thus reduce the number of flights in terms of increased passenger traffic. In addition, the Airbus A321 is a modern, efficient and safe low-noise aircraft. Which is very important for a city airport.

The development of design and estimate documentation is currently underway. Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport covers an area of 265 hectares, has one runway 2,310 m long and 45 m wide.

Prior to COVID-19, Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport cooperated with more than 43 airlines, operating flights to approximately 140 cities in 48 countries. It operated about 2,500 flights a month and served nearly 2 million passengers annually.

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) is one of the two passenger airports of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. It is located in the Zhuliany neighbourhood, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) southwest of the city centre.

Aside from facilitating regular passenger flights, Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport is also the main business aviation airport in Ukraine, and one of the busiest business aviation hubs in Europe.
