Kamikaze Chipmunk the Concierge Service for Timmy Garrett, Extreme World Class Endurance Athlete, Swims Around Manhattan Island, Cycles Through Six States and Runs Along the Hudson River to Time Square

NEW YORK - June 15, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

On Saturday, the first of June, while the 1.6 million inhabitants of Manhattan Island went about their weekend business, 16 swimmers set off to swim the “20 Bridges Swim” -- a 28.5-mile circumnavigation around the island of Manhattan via the East River, Harlem River, and Hudson River, under its 20 bridges. Organized by New York Open Water Incorporated, this is an internationally recognized marathon swim. There are strict prerequisites, with a strong emphasis on swimmers' resumes; only swimmers displaying exacting credentials are confirmed entry. Kamikaze Chipmunk provided the essential support service to complete the project.

Timmy Garrett, a London lad who lives in Sydney, Australia was one athlete on the list of starters. But his goals were higher -- setting himself the challenge of an ultra-endurance triathlon:

Stage 1 - the 28.5-mile cool water swim around Manhattan Island.

Stage 2 - an epic 521-mile bike ride through Manhattan along the coast to Boston, then up to Concord (New Hampshire) and then over to Albany (New York).

Stage 3 - a punishing run along the Hudson River from Albany to Times Square, only 145 more miles in the hurt locker.

This will be the second world's first that Tim has completed within the space of two months and the fourth ultra-endurance triathlon project that he will have completed. These projects incorporate the hardest swims in the world, followed by the incomprehensible mileage on the bike and runs. So far, Timmy has completed the:

1.   London to Paris (run 87 miles, swim the English Channel, and ride 181 miles)

2.   California -- swim 21 miles to Catalina Island, ride 400 miles, then run Badwater, 135 miles

3.   New Zealand -- swim Cook Strait, 26 miles, ride 534 miles, run 69 miles with 26,850 feet elevation. A world first.

4.   New York -- swim 28 miles around Manhattan Island, ride 521 miles and run 145 miles. A world first.

It is difficult not to get tired looking at the miles he does on paper, let alone getting the opportunity to crew for this quiet, humble guy -- without doubt, an inspirational and highly motivated person to be around. To hear this man talk on some of the things he has done, the questions are always why, and then how?

Timmy has called this “The Manhattan Project ultra-endurance race” across six states and 666 miles. The actual distance was over 700 miles, but hey, it doesn’t matter to him. During the swim, he hurt his shoulder and slowed down to protect it. The next day he rode his bike but only got 50 miles due to another delay, wiped out by a car on a hit-and-run. Despite injuries, he continued, with the ethos of “Never ever give up.” The run too was not without problems and an obstacle course. This took 109 hours of moving time in 12 days.

Most people consider this insane mileage and wonder, how is it possible? Timmy Garrett is 57 years old, works and is expecting his sixth child. Without a doubt, he is a world-class athlete, stoic, tenacious and embraces challenges. A number of equally ambitious projects are planned for the near future.

Timmy is raising money for Boys and Girls Club of America.
