Award-Winning Feature Film 'I Wrote This For You' to Debut on the West Coast at Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood

Produced and directed by Jason Zavaleta, 'I Wrote This For You' has already earned four awards and five nominations

LOS ANGELES, CA, June 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Award-winning feature film "I Wrote This For You" is generating buzz in the independent film circuit after winning awards and nominations since the film's festival debut. Now, the gritty, eye-opening feature film from visionary director Jason Zavaleta is set to debut at the Dances With Films festival at TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, which begins June 13 to June 23. "I Wrote This For You" will premiere on June 14.

"I Wrote This For You" centers on a young man named Hunter who turns to slam poetry to help him overcome the trauma he suffered from a broken and important relationship in his life. As he travels across Los Angeles in search of himself with a daily commitment to "do good things," Hunter builds several obscure, yet poignant relationships along his journey, which is set against the artistic backdrop of slam poetry.

"I am very proud of the hard work our cast and crew poured into this film. 'I Wrote This For You' has a lot of heart and soul within a story many people can relate to, which is why I believe it has earned so much attention and resonated with people," said Zavaleta.

"I Wrote This For You" has garnered four awards and five nominations since its debut. Melise received the Best Supporting Actress award at the Hoboken International Film Festival last month, where the film's cinematographer Favienne Howsepian also earned a nomination for Best Cinematography. The production team was presented with an Award of Merit (Special Mention) by the Accolade Global Film Competition, and the film also received an Award of Merit from IndieFest, and the Grand Jury Prize at the Alexandria International Film Festival in Virginia.

Five of the eight poems in the film are performed by spoken word artists with poetry from their own repertoire, including Kito Fortune. Jasmine Williams, who wrote the poetry for characters Hunter, Ariana and Phoenix, has been featured on HBO's special "Brave New Voices" on spoken word.

"I'm so honored to have such deeply committed talent on screen, especially from my long-time collaborator Brennan Keel Cook. Between him, Serra, and Melise, they really allow you to get into the world of these characters," Zaveleta added.

"I Wrote This For You" also stars Patrick R. Walker, Serra Naiman, Nina Hartley, Michael Badalucco and Ritchie Montgomery. It was produced by Matt Stoner, Jason Zavaleta, and Stefania Pierucci. The film is represented by Jeff Porter at Porter Pictures.

Tickets are available now for "I Wrote This For You," which will be released on June 14 at 9:30 p.m. as an official, in-competition selection at Dances With Films, which is in its 22nd year. Dances With Films festival will have more than 200 films, including narrative feature films, and short films and documentaries.
