Kenny works a menial job and lives with his mother who abuses her elderly feebleness to take advantage of her son's generosity. Hoping to reclaim his adult life someday soon, his mother's health problems keep him captive. The drama short KENNY is laced with brilliant dark comedic overtones and is a strong inaugural film from storyteller McCurdy, who is pivoting her career to behind the camera. The short was made by a creative team of female filmmakers, with an almost entirely female key crew for production.

Inspired by her experience coping with her own mother's death, McCurdy explores loss and the different ways people respond to it while living within dysfunctional family dynamics.

"My mom died when I was 21. We had a complex relationship, funny and heartbreaking at times. For a long time it was hard for me to admit to myself that losing her was as liberating for me as it was devastating. I wanted to showcase that point of view with this short, Kenny." - McCurdy
