Renowned Artist Picard Gets Million Dollar Offer on Dark & Wounded Painting

By: PRLog
LOS ANGELES - Jan. 22, 2018 - PRLog -- James Picard is an artist with a vision. Though he has been painting his entire life in a career that spans over four decades, it is his recent series of paintings started in 2012 which has garnered the most attention. With the series he entitled, "The Dark and The Wounded," Picard has delved deep into the human psyche and given us a glimpse into what it means to be a human being existing on the planet. He holds back nothing and forces us to look inside ourselves, face our demons and heal. This allows for a better understanding of others and a realization that not only do we all have wounds and suffer, but we are all in this together. It is our common thread as human beings.

The paintings have toured across North America and events were staged at abandoned asylums, hospitals and prisons, places the artist states are the perfect exhibition venues as they have housed the darkness that we fear the most. The exhibitions had rave reviews among attendees and many said that the visceral effect of these unique events literally took them through real life changing vivication.

The tour culminated with a show in 2015 at the historical Alcatraz prison in San Francisco where Picard and his D&W crew tied together all the wounds and darkness of humanity in one of the darkest places on the planet. The results for all those who attended were nothing short of phenomenal.

Picard, who had been filming these events, then put together a short documentary of the aforementioned tour, entering it into film festivals across the United States and Canada, where it began not only being selected by the festivals but started winning top awards at nearly every festival it was entered into. Not a big surprise as Picard, as I mentioned, is an artist with a vision. His dedication and constant extremism are his very method of daily work. His single-mindedness means he sacrifices everything, and I do mean everything, to his ideas. Picard's amazing multiplicity of styles and his ability to create works of art that always live in the present, no matter how much time has passed make him an artist on quite a different level to most of his peers. He makes us recognize our own contemporary environment and makes us recognize ourselves within that environment. His awareness is a testament to his genius and his work pays tribute to not only his personal spirit but the spirit of humanity itself. Everything, in order to achieve true existence, must pierce the very centre of the target aimed for and anything that misses that centre simply does not exist. Picard's aim is true and accurate. He is ascending the obstacles that are impeding human progress and those that deny this vision and greatness are simply doing so because they themselves are dis-acknowledging their own truth and place in the world.

Picard's work increases our awareness of our own potentiality. We respond to his art and when we leave it we carry away in our consciousness something which we didn't have before.

These astute observations I am not alone in. Picard's career and art have been sought after for decades by collectors, buyers and galleries. Many are aware of the value of his work along with the price. Certain collectors are fully aware of his Dark and Wounded series and where it fits into the long-term historical place in art history. These particular Picard pieces have fetched tens of thousands of dollars so it was really no surprise when Picard was recently offered $500,000 US  for his "Apparitions" painting (shown above) from a prominent Russian art collector. What was a surprise, was Picard rejected the offer. Picard stated that the dismissal of the offer was due to the fact that the painting needed to stay with the rest of the series until he was finished his Dark and Wounded European tour scheduled for late 2018, early 2019. Berlin art agent Natalia Ivanovsky, who is representing her Russian art collector client, has since countered Picard's half-million dollar refusal with a $1,000,000 offer stating that, "The piece will be going into a major collection" and that, "Picard is going to be the future of art." That's good news for Picard's collection, but most of us already knew Picard IS the future of art.
