Hundreds Of Proud South Africans Celebrate National Heritage Day At Castle Kyalami

On Sunday 24 September, over 200 local officials, religious and community leaders, journalists and many others gathered at the Church of Scientology in Midrand, popularly known as Castle Kyalami, for the annual celebration of Heritage Day.

On Sunday 24 September, over 200 local officials, religious and community leaders, journalists and many others gathered at the Church of Scientology in Midrand, popularly known as Castle Kyalami, for the annual celebration of Heritage Day. 

Proud in their traditional attire, they celebrated with a heartwarming celebration that was filled with hundreds of singing voices, Zulu dancers, braai and more to mark the anniversary of the cultural wealth found all over South Africa. The large community came together to celebrate the richness of the Rainbow Nation.

Heritage Day on 24 September recognizes and celebrates the cultural wealth of our nation. South Africans celebrate the day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day.

An executive of the South African National Taxi Council, who was also present at the event said, “This was truly a beautiful day. The unity that exists at the Castle and their ability to bring everyone together is truly astonishing. It is a proud moment to see everyone embracing their culture and proudly displaying the cultural wealth our country has.” 

“This is one of those days where you really appreciate being South African. The whole community gathered to celebrate and embrace each other’s heritage. We hosted this event to promote further unity and tolerance amongst the nation,” said Sandile Hlayisi, spokesperson for the Church of Scientology, Castle Kyalami. 

“This was truly a Heritage Day celebration. I am glad that we have places such as Castle Kyalami where we can all come together and celebrate as one, “commented one of the guests. 

An SABC reporter, expressed his delight and said “I wish we can have more places like this where one can truly immerse themselves in unity. What I have witnessed and allowed to be part of today is heartwarming. This is the place to be.” 

The day was filled with traditional songs, dances, African markets and even a sermon on religious unity. 

Castle Kyalami is a Midrand landmark. Located atop the highest point in the region, it is home to the Church of Scientology and the community of Midrand. Weekly celebrations and events held at the Castle ranges widely and includes, skills development workshops, drug awareness education, community celebrations, charity gala, national holiday celebrations and more.
