The Cherokee people have existed since time immemorial? Is it that we’re from the ancient ones, that we have rich history, or what exactly? As Cherokee, we are all of that – born of the ancient ways, filled with rich history – and so much more. This is who we are. Keetoowah is not a place it never was, it is a people. Keetoowah is where our people stand and come together as one!

The Keetoowah is the first Cherokee to move west to Oklahoma.

The word "Keetoowah" is the name which my people have always called themselves. The word "Cherokee" has no meaning in the language of my people. It is derived from a Muscogan Language and its meaning is the "inhabitant of the cave country." The word "Keetoowah" means "Principal People."
