        United States Cellular Corporation announced its intention to deploy CDMA 1XRTT
(Code Division Multiple Access) technology in all of its markets.

        This Current Report on Form 8-K is being filed for the purpose of filing the news release
issued by U.S. Cellular on December 19, 2001 relating to such announcement as an exhibit.
